Safety Investigations Manager

Manage and lead a dedicated safety investigations team on behalf of Queensland rail for the purposes of identifying root causes and generating the appropriate solutions to prevent recurrence, whilst practicing improvement methods, contemporary risk management practices and the appropriate engagement techniques.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and lead, direct and conduct as required, safety investigations into major projects, passenger and railway accidents and incidents for Queensland Rail including, including accidents /incidents resulting in the issue of Prohibition and Improvement Notices by external regulatory agencies.
  • Facilitate, manage and review the development, implementation and maintenance of safety maintenance plans including liaison with external investigation and regulatory agencies (Queensland Transport, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland , Electrical Safety Office, Queensland Police etc).
  • Manage, facilitate and maintain safety investigation reviews using the principles of procedural fairness, just culture, causal analysis and systems review and analysis.
  • Mange the communication of investigation outcomes to relevant Queensland Rail Managers in regards to major workplace, passenger and railway accidents/incidents and review recommendations to ensure that the appropriate risk management strategies are appropriate and effective.
  • Facilitate the design, development and deployment of an approved investigative skills training program, policy documents, associated tools and quality assurance frameworks that meet the relevant needs of all stakeholders and is aligned to contemporary risk management practices, investigative techniques and relevant standards.
  • Conduct mentoring, coaching and provide professional development plans for subordinates in line with the organisations people strategy and talent pipeline.
  • Manage and facilitate the review of accident/incident causation to determine casual and systemic trends as well as the relevant data analysis activities so as to provide the requisite forecast information to the Chief Safety and Environment Officer.
  • Facilitate the presentation, compilation and delivery of evidence for various forms courts and tribunals and as required by members of the Executive Leadership Team of Queensland Rail.
